As one of my art instructors once said, "Though original ideas are a blessing, archetypes exist for a reason. They're things that inspire us time and time again." That always stuck with me. Artists/writers/musicians with similar backgrounds and interests will come up with similar ideas regardless of whether they've even heard of the so-called original. Doesn't necessarily mean it's a ripoff. That's why they call 'em archetypes. :)
