always do that, we got a 05 grand caravan and the tach goes up to 7k, now when is a grocery getter gonna get up to 7k? in a rural area for that matter? I mean even 5k is ridiculous

i agree, i think that your maintainence depends on your background really. im training to get ase cert. so im very meticulous with my car care. ive been fixing the worn stuff on my 89 power ram w/ a 318. i jus popped out two freeze plugs today and there was some nasty shit i pulled out of there. but ive done well over a $1000 worth of work and im only 16, so i know what im doing

I've hit 4k in my '07 6.7 cummins, and it's stock. Manual tranny though. It actually scared me a little cuz I didn't expect it to rev that high. It was an, "oh, shit!" moment. I wonder why mine was able to do this being stock and the 5.9 CRs couldn't?

I got P injection and a home made supercharger feeding the twin turbos. and when I drag im takin well over 4000, but mine is modded to perfection.
hardcorecowboyshw (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
they may rev high but they're only 3.0L. 286 hp, and 427 lb ft with 2 turbos. But your right it is a really great engine and revs over 6000 rpm. I'm Cummins all the way, but I'd take any diesel(excluding powerjokes) before I'd take anything with spark plugs.

How big were the pistons in that little bmw? Lol, you're comparing apples to oranges. 4K in the CR Cummins is a milestone.
beddowc (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
The cummins that are running 6k are 12 and 24valve p7100 mechanically injected engines. Common rail Cummins are electronically controlled. Nobody has been able to over ride the ECM to allow for more than 4k rpm's. I am sure it will happen some day though.
twankedls (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
the whole point is, its a diesel diesels "arnt made" for high rpm. they are low end engine. and the 6 cyl. being in a straight sequence makes even more torque. your an idiot still thinking that cummins are v8's |
