Well i would imagine that a soldier would know what munitions did what. And from my own experiences.. most bombs, missiles and explosives flash... not continue to glow up in the sky extended periods of time. Or at least if they do. its not a steady glow. It would be intense at frist and slowly(over a few seconds) die down. Its all about logic dude. How could you logicly explain that? UFO? Well.. yes.. it is a UFO.. but as for aliens .. probably not...

UFO = Unidentified Flying Object. Flares they may be but flares generally are a star burst glare (if your refering to tactical lighting) if your talking about solar flares those generally arnt seen at night? due to the fact that you cant see the sun at night, obviously. And.. a Supernova? Do you even know what a super nova is? If you did you would realize that you wouldnt see one of those ever.. and if you did you probably would be dead by now if it was "close"

Having been to Iraq (OIF3) and used a starlight scope. I know that lenses of those thing reflect light from just about anywhere! There is no telling what those lights are, but my guess is...reflection from a near by town or something practical.
