I never changed my argument, I always stated that it is what the subject perceives. I don't know Lichtenstein enough to know that I care. It just says a lot about the artists philosophy if he doesn't create. I would not feel comfortable using this "post modern practice" BS. To me it is just commercializing others work, which holds no meaning to me. Again subjective, but personally I still hold that Fairey's work is meaningless. Not worth looking up to. Commercial acceptance is worthless.

I never once changed my argument. I said the art is what the subject perceives, and I personally hold that Fairey's work is hollow and meaningless. I haven't studied Lichtenstein enough to know whether or not I care. For an artist to not actually create something though says a great deal about their philosophy. I personally would not feel comfortable working with this "Post modern practice". All it sounds like to me is commercializing others work, and I still hold that it is worthless BS.

i went for an exteme comparison, for impact. have you changed your arguement? because saying lichtensteins work is ripped from comic books proves my point that recreation is an accepted post modern practice. unless you are only contesting his works message. in which case is a very personal response which really can't be argued, and relys more on your view not the artists

So Madsen, are you comparing Warhol to Fairey? The two have very different practices, I would just hope you understand the nuances before you go comparing the two. Yes, they are other artists in history who copied, does that make them any better? Look at Lichtenstein, most of his work is straight ripped from comic books, frame for frame. Does this make him any less of an artist? That is up to you to decide for yourself. My personal feelings are that Fairey's work, is empty.

i wouldnt like to go to your art school if they can't even teach you about post modern practice. is andy warhol a plagarist just because he painted one color of newspaper cut outs, don't thinks so. i believe he is world renound.

If you just look up to Shepard Fairey then you are setting your sights way too low. I agree with "thelatedavesmith", SF is a hack. I don't care what post modern - BS you call it. I'm graduating from art school in 2 months, and I tell you THIS IS NOT ART! It's shallow, hollow, empty, meaningless.

fairey uses the technique of recreation like world renound artist Yasumasa Morimura. in the process they take an already developed artwork and either tweak the piece or involve it in their work to either change it's message or link their message to that work. it's call post modern practice, take an art lesson before you believe everything written on the internet
