Great movie, very dramatic and great story. I loved Zhang Ziyi in it as well.

Go with God.
Peace.
No hard feelings ;-)
Just that what you said was ridiculous, in light of that the directors, themselves, cited Hamlet as the inspiration for this tale.
Beautiful movie!
Better than any Western version of Hamlet I've ever seen!!!!!

Huh? ftw, indeed! Not only have I learned to read - I've also learned to listen; a skill which you would do well to practice as it is quite useful!
You told avalonroad not to be so euro-centric as to say that "BANQUET" was based on "HAMLET." What I replied to you was that THE VERY DIRECTORS OF THE FILM CLAIM THE MOVIE IS BASED ON IT!!!
Before commenting, one must pull one's head out of the sand long enough to know what one is discussing, so as not to appear so darned ignorant.
God with God.

I hate to have to bitch-slap you, but no one who knows the WORLDWIDE fame of Shakespeare, or his Hamlet would disagree with you about the history of China. But, Pls! tell us Hamlet was a loose retelling of some great Chinese story... and, well, we'd probably have heard of it by now! I'm of Chinese extraction & have NEVER heard of another Hamlet coming out of China. The very writers/producers of this work cite Shakespeare's Hamlet as their inspiration, Not Confucius, or other famous chinese!

Possibly the best movie of the last decade.
A rich smorgasbörd of colors, tapestries, sounds and cinematography.
The performances are beyond stellar.
The soundtrack is perfection.
Everything about this movie was so well done that you can have absolutely no complaint!!!

The only one being euro-centric is director Feng Xiaogang. Wikipedia- The Banquet (released on DVD in the U.S. as Legend of the Black Scorpion) is a 2006 Chinese wuxia-drama film. Its original Chinese title is Yè Yàn (夜宴), which means "Night Banquet". The film was directed by Feng Xiaogang and stars Zhang Ziyi. It is a loose adaption of William Shakespeare's tragedy Hamlet, and features themes of revenge and fate. It is set in the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms Period, in 10th-century China.
