I would say the gold was more confiscated than sold. Confiscated to cover the @ the time maybe between 1 or 2 trillion dollar debt. A debt incurred by the 100 yr cycle of borrowing and paying interest on money the FED never gave you in the first place, you just gave them permission to print it.

The Federal Reserve isn't even Federal. It's owned by PRIVATE bankers. The actual gold that backs our dollar system has been sold to the Federal Reserve, then sold to other countries. So, this gold that our money is worth is gone, so the worth of the dollar goes down. We owe so much money from borrowing from other countries, they pretty much own us. If you borrow money from the bank to buy a house, and you fail to pay, the bank owns your house...same basic principle.

Ron Paul is right in the sense that the Fed is an agency that we can live without, in fact the Fed caused the Great Depression. But to argue that the Fed is the sole reason for a business cycle is a silly notion, I am surprised that such a great man can make that kind of assertion. Still, I am all for getting rid of the Fed.
