Yeah, it just a matter of survival in areas like Compton, D.C, or South Side Chicago. The only reason there are gangs today is because society and THE SYSTEM failed in the past. Gangs like the Crips were created so they could protect themselves from police back in the 70's. But as their numbers grew their disire for power and respect grew. They then turned too crime as a way to gain power, and today Crips are one of the largest gangs in the country. Its just a ripple effect of society.
