garouHH- Try shampooing it with pet shampoo. A 10 minute soak in a diluted vinegar solution (1 part vinegar, 9 parts hot water) or a 30 minute soak in a mild borax a teaspoon of the "20 mule team" stuff in a sinkfull of water) will help knock down the smell. A week or two of use and the smell should be gone.

Oh, and an answer that came up, too: If you're prone to sore wrists during building the lather, holding the wrist straight and making the motion from elbow and shoulder seems to work just as well.
(Well, actually my lather still seems a bit thin on the face, but I guess that's a matter of more soap, maybe more water, more swirling and, generally, more practice.)

Another question that came up: How do I get the gamey smell out of my new brush? Using it, using it and using it again? Or is there some shortcut? Right now, I smell like a badger instead of like marzipan.

As the silvertip badger brush and Col. Conks almond soap are on the way, now would be a great time. ;)

Rooney, huh?...Sheesh. How much did that bad boy set you back?

I just rinse my brush under hot water, shake it forcefully in the shower with several hard downward strokes, then leave it standing bristle side up on the counter.

Great video, exactly what I needed. Do you have recommendations on cleaning/drying the brush after use, too? |
