no it is not very very very very rare.... not in the least bit... its actually a lot more common then people assume most people with DID are not open about their disorder and many can hide it very well

People need to realize that just because they don't know or understand everything about a disorder doesn't mean it doesn't exist... He doesn't literally have different people inside of him... these "alters" are just fragments of himself... It's a method that the mind uses as a defense mechanism to cope with unbearable abuse... if you think its made up then that probably means you haven't tried to learn anything about it or you aren't intelligent enough to comprehend it

Actually, if you're going to treat this disorder you HAVE to talk to each and every single alter. They know why they're there, they have been brought about by some sort of trauma. You have to convince them they aren't needed anymore. This is also coming from a psychologist with at least 10 years of experience.

That psychologist is not helping this man at all... If someone has DID the best thing (i think, and my psych teacher who is a clinical psychologist) to do is to ignore the switches and try to talk to the core person, which is really hard. Acknowledging the other identities just strengthens the disorder.

Another time she became some child and wanted to draw on her apt. walls... oh the best was at my 5th b-day pty she shoved 5 cupcakes in her mouth!!(that was Andrew..the only one who I know of that has a name) But each time it happened she did not remember what happened. It did get scarry esp. now that I have children..just cuz you never know who will come out and what will happen. It's kinda sad..

I had a friend who has MPD/DID and PTSD and have actually witnessed her "change" into other personalities in front of me several times. Once she got a real bad headache and new it was going to happen and warned my mother and I. It was wierd cuz her normal self smokes and the teen that came out(for lack of better terms) did not smoke and was coughing and worried about getting into trouble about smoking.. She even tried to leave and go home, not knowing where home was or who my mom and I were..
