To stay in time they all take the same MIDI clock to play their sequences.
They regularly use the modular playing style, in that they will have the notes and timing of each sequence pre-defined, and will alter the parameters of their synthesizers, samplers and effects instead of playing the notes and sequencing the changes in timbre.
