" I hope you don't think Amanda is more beautiful just because shes white!"

hint- it's a catchy, fun song! you know, fun? try having some, you seem to be missing out. :(

bigodin, I was talking about a whole range of people covering this song (her, Tegan and Sara, Vanilla Sky, etc.) who tend to be either white or European.
I'm a fan of neither but I don't see how Amanda is any more classy or beautiful than Rhianna. I hope you don't think Amanda is more beautiful just because shes white!
Honestly twat is one of my favorite insults too, you prick.
bigodin (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
she's from boston, you pretentious twat, not from europe
amanda killed it, with more grace and beauty that rihanna will ever have
qiaooooo (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)

mmika, I'm just amazed the wanna-be attitudes of white-trash suburban wiggers is so contagious. I'm not sure if she's being ironic or if she caught the disease. Whats really ironic (and subtly exploits racist power dynamics) is how her cover somehow makes that pop song more accessible to the white cultural snobs who would never have Rihanna on their iPod. But, I like karaoke and pop music as much as anyone so I cant hate on her too much.

u were just wating for ure chance to use the word "vapid"...

Hahaha. Racist, really? Hip-hop, if you consider this song to be such, is music, which is often playful. Amanda has been talking about this song since it's been on the radio, and playing it for almost as long. So, she is playful when performing this song, as with most of her others. Claiming this is racist is almost racist in itself, when dealing with such an open, accepting artist. So lets not make this about race, or anything else for that matter. Shut the hell up and enjoy the video. :D

Whites and Europeans mimicking/mocking/goofing-on/appropriating/detourning popular American hip-hop culture in this way is getting old. Both Amanda Palmer and Rhianna have both resolutely made themselves irrelevant. The difference is that Palmer's vapid randomness has a racist aftertaste. |
